Game 5 at World Chess Match: Carlsen Strikes First, Leads 3-2 versus Anand
Norwegian fans exulted as World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen drew first blood at the Chennai World Chess Championship 2013 today with a fine win in Game 5. Carlsen struck through Anand’s defenses in a game that almost nearly went to a draw in a Rook and pawns endgame. Magnus Carlsen was up one pawn up and ground out the win from the bare minimum. Enough, however, for Carlsen to draw blood. All chances to salvage things with 57. … Kc5 were gone and Viswanathan Anand resigned shortly afterwards.
