Black resigns because after Nxe7+ and Black’s King move, White has to simply play to a checkmate. For example, 44.Nxe7+ Kh7 45.Qg8+ Kh6 46.Bf4# Or, 44.Nxe7+ Kh6 45.Bf4 Kh7 46.Qg8#

Even otherwise, if Black had not taken the g6 pawn with the King and played 43. …fxg instead of 43. …Kxg6 (as in the game), White would have still won simply with 44.Nxg5 checkmate! Did you spot that chess move?

Either i need to clean by computer screen or i’m afraid the diagram isn’t correct. If there’s a pawn in h6 how come Kh6 or Ng5# possible?:)

  • Steve says:

I studied the diagram for 10 minutes and couldn’t figure it out. After playing through the game, I see the pawn on h6 should really be on h5.

  • admin says:

You are right the pawn should be on h5, sorry! We will fix asap!

golly i didnt notice that i went straight to the game applet

First I wondered why black played 43. … Kxg6 but then I saw 44. Ng5# so this is actually a mate in three with as headliner clearance (if I am not mistaken) since g5-g6 gives room for white to play Ng5 so black has to play Kxg6 and walk right into a minefield.
