2012 Chess World Championship Game 3 – A Fighting Draw

Today’s third game of the 2012 Chess World Championship between defending champ Viswanathan Anand and challenger Boris Gelfand was another draw, but this one was a bit harder-fought than the first two games.

Gelfand, playing the Black side of a Neo-Grunfeld Defense, took the bull by the horns by straying from known theory on move 16, but a slight inaccuracy a few moves later swung the balance to Anand. The champ then enjoyed a slight edge but was unable to capitalize on it, and the game was agreed drawn after Black’s 37th move.
